Karabiner elements key repeat3/17/2023 ![]() ![]() Pasteboard History (which is part of Better Touch Tool). So for the past decade I’ve used an external gaming keypad to the left of my keyboard with custom macros set up for some common commands: While this odd keyboard is great for normal typing, certain key combinations are unwieldy. or they might give the same one back to you, who knows? haha.As I’ve written before, I use this weird keyboard which has helped greatly with my carpal tunnel issues. They shall give you a brand new (refurbished?) one, and charge you only the new keyboard. If you have some money, then backup you computer, go to the applestore and tell them you want to buy a new keyboard, because you broke the current one. or maybe you might make it stop working entirely, who knows? =) Solution: (this will probably void any warranty) open your computer carefully, remove the keyboard, dismantle all keys one by one, separate the plastic layers with surgical precision so you don't cause any ruptures to the electric "wires", then wash everything with a lot of water and very little mild soap, take extra care to remove ALL the soap, leave everything to dry in the sun (you know electronic components don't like humidity, right?) assemble everything together with "just-washed" oil free hands (don't touch the inner part of the sensors now).ĭoing all this, if you have any luck your keyboard might work 100% again. So even if you have a single hair touching those circuits, your keyboard would "break" the same way it breaks when you spill coffee or whatever liquid even after the liquid dries, the coffee and the sugar are probably still there "pressing" your alt key. also, the electricity that goes trough your keyboard is extremely tiny, and sensors are VERRY sensible, so your air battery can lasts longer. ![]() ![]() Problem is: separation is the same as an average good quality book paper sheet, or maybe the same as the aluminum sheet that makes a soda or beer can. When you press a key, the top and bottom plastic are pressed against one another inside the hole of the middle layer, and the electronic signal going from the top to the bottom layer tells your computer that the key is pressed. Keyboards are 2 layers of plastic film with tiny electric contact, separated by a third layer of plastic film with holes on the spot of every single key. You can activate "Show Keyboard & Character Viewers in menu bar" in System Preferences and get them from the menu bar. ![]() This behaviour would be prevented by "repeat": false. This method, though, may not be advisable/applicable, if the holding-down of a key (e.g.: "a") in an app opens a small window above it offering (e.g.:) "ä" / "å" / "ậ" or similar choices – IF you need those special characters. (I had to simulate the situation by testing in an app that does repeat keys if held down – but actually yours may be a non-solvable mechanical problem …) This solution works for the user in (ex-) trouble. Please report if this code does for you what it's supposed to do. (The threshold is defined to a minimal 1/100 second, so you won't notice any difference. – Finally import from KE: tab "Complex Modifications", buttons & ,Īs you can see letter "b" is NOT re-mapped but in "to_if_held_down" kept from being repeated by "repeat": false obviously letter 'b' may be substituted with any other failing letter. – Next manually move a copy to ~/.config/karabiner/assets/complex_modifications/ – Copy/paste the code below into TextEdit and "Save as." and edit its ~/.config/karabiner/karabiner.json this way (added to/after "rules"): For your special case I would suggest you use Karabiner Elements. ![]()
